May 30, 2003, Newsletter Issue #127: Tips For 3 Day Eventing

Tip of the Week

If you are required to present your horse "In-Hand", by the host club, before the Judges: Wear NEW black jeans or black slacks, PLAIN white long sleeved shirt, Fitted Black Vest, black gloves, and preferably black paddock boots polished and in good repair. Your hair, if long, should be back in a French Braid. If short, neatly and freshly washed and styled in a manner that is not distracting NOR blinding when you are trotting alongside of your horse.

The horse`s mane should be braided, and the tale, if not braided, should be pulled at the top to have an attractive appearance, and banged at the bottom.

Clean hooves, and although polished hooves are not mandatory, they are more attractive. If you are not an expert in hoof polish, you are better off with scrubbed clean hooves and clear polish, than to make a bad attempt with black polish~!

Your Dressage test is your first chance to start off with as high a score as possible. We all know that to get a great Dressage score demands a horse that loves flat work, is conformationally designed for great dressage moves, and all of life`s elements working in our immediate favour.

Just try to stay calm, and mentally perform your moves in advance of the letters. Have your horse, your tack and yourself well turned out (cleaned-repaired-polished-conditionally fit).

3 Day Eventing scores are made and broken by bad Dressage Tests, so the more work that you have put into this before hand, the better you will do on the day thereof.

REMEMBER: Remember to have fun, and to wear a SMILE~!~!

June we will discuss 3 Day Eventing Tips, and in that will present more Show Jumping Tips for our readers.

Here’s hoping you have Good GO!s every outing with horses.
