How do I start a horse under saddle?

Beginning A Horse To Saddle

At first you should work with another person for safety reasons. It is preferable to have someone get on and you lunge your horse. That way your horse can still see you and get support from you. Continue the voice commands as though no rider was on the horse. Have the horse walk ALOT. (It is as he trots or canters that he might resist the weight of the rider.) Have the rider wear a hard hat and if possible, a padded vest, and use a western saddle. Take your time. Most often problems happen from taking the horse along too fast.
