Tip of the Week
The Cut Back Saddle is flat and has no padding on the flaps. The flaps are the widest of all English Saddles, and the only padding on the saddle is through the gullet of the saddle. The girth is always a white patent leather girth for Saddleseat, except in Tennessee Walkers~! No Saddle pad is being used. No leg boots, and only Bell Boots in the Gaited classes.
The Cut Back Saddle comes in the Equitation Seat and the Show Seat designs. The Equitation Seat is more scooped than the Show Seat, but both are pretty flat in Design. The average woman will ride a 21" or possibly a 20" seat, but children will almost always ride a 19" seat, no matter the design style.
Only in Tennessee Walkers are the Patent Leather and the Suede seats acceptable. All of the other Saddleseat Breeds, although they may not say anything will grossly frown on those leathers in the Show ring.
Your Bridle should be fine English Leather with Beveled Edges and a fine width such as 1/4". The Browband/Caveson set should always match. Morgans and Arabians will have Riders in all colors, whereas, Saddlebreds, the Trainers will have their Riders sporting only Red or Burgundy Caveson sets.
Your reins should be a fine 1/4" rein for the Curb Rein, and a 1/2" Laced Rein for the Snaffle.
The Snaffle is preferably a Bradoon type, and the Curb will have shanks that suit YOUR horse~!
