September 26, 2003, Newsletter Issue #144: Diet & Feeding Tips #4

Tip of the Week

With the wide spread use of the MSM and Cloclosamin supplements to diets, these two supplements NEED the combination of Vitamin C in order to be assumed by the horse`s digestive system. Without Vitamin C, these two supplements are of little value to your horse.

Personally, I prefer to have my hay analyzed and from there discover if I need any supplementation. My Veterinarian is able to tell me if the area in which we live shows concerns for any dietary imbalances and what I should add to my horse`s diets; from knowing their conditions, and ages, the work level, and the region.

You can send a sample of your feeding plan, and your area imbalance (if any) to the Nutrena Feeds. They will prepare for you a balanced diet, from their research systems formulated for each horse, and that horse`s exercise and "keeper" status, and region feeds available (specifically hays and other roughages).

Trial and error with each horse, and each product may be required to find the optimum feed for each animal that is in your care.

Remember to feed in one day 2.5% of your horse`s body weight (minimum), frequent feedings (at least 4 X daily), fresh clean water daily, provide a mineral and/or salt block available at all times, and lots of TLC administered with pieces of fruit and vegtables daily, and you will have a wonderfully dappled (horse`s only dapple up when they are completely satisfied and contented) horse that loves being with you~!

REMEMBER: Remember to have fun, and to wear a SMILE~!~!

In October, it will be Winter Management of Horse, and Property Tips.

Here’s hoping you have Good GO!s every outing with horses.
