Tip of the Week

The Gymkhana Games consist of competitive Western events such as: Keyhole Racing, Figure 8 Racing, Cloverleaf Barrel Racing, Quadrangle Stake Races, Pole Bending Races, Hurry/Scurry Races, Rescue Races and Speed Barrels. I will cover the most popular events that are usually held for both Adults and Children in either "Gymkhana" or "Rodeo Training".

Keyhole Racing

Is a timed event when a rope or a rubber hose, is arranged at the opposite to the start end of the arena, in the shape of a keyhole pattern. The Rider/Horse combination must race the length of the arena to the Keyhole, enter the shaft area, enter the keyhole area, make a full 180 degree turn on the haunches and then race back to the start. . .without touching the hose or the rope that forms the Keyhole shape.

Guide to Identifying an Appaloosa

Appaloosa Characteristics
Although Appaloosas are most commonly recognized by their colorful coat patterns, they also have other distinctive characteristics. The four identifiable characteristics are: coat pattern, mottled skin, white sclera, and striped hooves. In order to receive regular registration, a horse must have a recognizable coat pattern or mottled skin and one other characteristic.
