March 30, 2001, Newsletter Issue #31: Setting The Workout Routines For Conditioning

Tip of the Week

Setting a workout pattern/schedule that works for the Rider must depend on:

The Riders Willingness to Work at a Regular and Scheduled Routine.

The $$$ available to commute to/from barn, spending $$$ on the increase of feed necessary when the horses activity level increases substantially, the full $$$ cost of competing or of trailering to competitions (or even Trail Rides), the wear on clothing & tack competing.

The support from family, friends, fellow barn members. The comraderie in that support. The ability to share the wins with the others that go to the shows.

The Riders own personal initiative, and that of the immediate family members.

The Level that the Rider is currently at, and the Levels that are available in the future.

The Condition Level the Rider must achieve to be a worthy recipient of that Level of Competition Wins.

The realistic Time Frames available to the rider on a daily, weekly, monthly and seasonal basis.

For the Horse:

The availability to the Rider on a daily, weekly, monthly and seasonal frame.

The horse`s willingness to work, to respond to competition, and the horse`s own initiative to regular work and schedules.

The current and past levels of competition that the horse has achieved and in what time frames, and in what ratio to age, condition, association with others of like competition.

The current condition and the time frame available to work on the goals desired.
