I recommend taking along heavy duty garbage cans for each of the horses to eat their daily grain and hay out of, as you never know the ground or weather conditions of each location in which you will be staying. You can stack the garbage cans in the storage area of your trailer as you travel.

Next, what type of enclosures are provided for the horses? Are they closed and secure? What type of fencing, how high is the enclosures, how many rails? What are the enclosure measurements? Do the enclosures open to free range or are they within a secured area (in case of escape). Do they offer any shelter. (If not, then you should take along a rain sheet for each in case of downpours.) Be clean, well groomed, neat & tidy & appropriate in dress for Discipline/work, and ON TIME! Talk to others in areas that you are NOT interested in to discover fully the needs of Professionals so that you can cover these things in your presentation. For Instance, you are interested in pursuing Dressage....since Dressage is used in Eventing, ask professionals or their grooms in Eventing, what is of greatest value to that Professional in an assistant, and modify the comments to present a clear, specific and accurate picture to the Dressage Professional(s) that you want to solicite. Or ask other grooms of Dressage Professionals, or ask when out of town at shows. You want your preliminary work to be performed on others than the Professionals that you seek work from. In your presentation, have a Resume, that also visualizes what it is that you will be saying, as a complete reminder after you have left your appointment.

Search out opportunities at Tack Shops, Feed Stores, "A" Circuit Shows, Schooling Shows. Start small, working your way up to the top, and the most reputed Mentors in their Disciplines. Approach perspective professionals KNOWING exactly how you can help them and outlining how they will be helping you. Offer trial periods of a short duration in order to test the waters for both of you, and then remain through that commitment! Start off, a weekend, then progress in small increments from there. Remembering that EVERY written recommendation is a positive recommendation, no matter how short a period of time the work was performed~!
This tip or 12 points, is centered around Horse/Equestrian Camps for Children, either for the summer, spring break, weekly or seasonal.
1) Day or Residence.
2) Do they belong to or know of a youth group; boy scout or girl guide, YMCA or YWCA for referrals. Christian Camping International is at www.gospel.com.net/cci
3) Is the Camp accredited, and by whom. ACA ensure a high level of standards for day and residence camps. ACA is at www.acacamps.org or 1-800-428-CAMP.
4) Ratio of Campers to the Counsellors. Younger children should have a fewer number of counsellors per number of children...6/8 yrs.=6 per; 9/14 yrs.= 8 per.
5) Length of Camp, 5-7 days is the normal length.
6) Are visitors (family) allowed. This is not an unreasonable request! You should be allowed in advance or at the time of commencement to view all of the facilities offered!
7) What is their return rate!!! High indicates large satisfaction from families & children! Ask for Name & Telephone Number of previous satisfied families for references.
8) Who is the Camp Director? Qualifications? Education? Specialization? Length of Time there?
9) What is the Camper/Horse ratio? 3 hrs. spent in atletic activities is considered to the be norm/minimum.
10) What other activities are offered? Development of several areas is recommended.
11) Riding Instructor's Qualifications? Experience? Eduation? Length of Time there?
12) Cost? The average for day camps is $10-$50. and, the average for Residence is $15-$125. per day.
Remember, you should be able to view the entire facility, and have references that you can personally contact for information/recommendation....they are keeping your children w/o you!!!
Are all horses expected to provide proof of vaccines and health certificates or is the place one of "good faith". Make sure of this, as this can be a deadly transmission of virus' if the place is a place of "good faith".

Watch your Mentor B/4 you begin any task. I will bet that they work very hard, long hours, 6 or even 7 days of the week, and will expect as much from you~! This is very much so, until you have earned their trust & respect. You want their written recommendation, so work hard to earn it! Ask for it, when the working relationship is at a good, supportive, and favorable place in time....not usually always at the end of the term.

First, are you taking a Camper attachment for yourselves as well? You want to be as close as possible to the location of your horses in their new environment.
Next, what type of enclosures are provided for the horses? Are they closed and secure? What type of fencing, how high is the enclosures, how many rails? What are the enclosure measurements? Be Respectful, flexible. ALWAYS try to keep your goals in the forefront of your mind. Be willing to learn ALL that you can. Be honest, reliable, responsible, respectful. Do NOT get in the way. Earn respect & trust on a daily basis.
Always make sure at each destination that you have an alternative back up of a recommended local boarding facility (which is so easy to check for on the Web), so that should the facility be less than your standards of acceptability you are not caught after several days travel of still housing your horse(s) in your trailer! Also, check with local camping places in advance, of alternate camp grounds where your horse is welcome. This few extra hours spent in advance, may make, or break a perfectly good vacation; so that it is one of memorable experiences over one that is the trip that you will never want to remember.

Some Questions that you should ask in searching for a Children's Camp:
1) Day or Residence?
2) Do they belong to or Do you know of a reputable youth group camp?
3) Is the Camp Accredited? By Whom? The ACA ensures a high level of facilities & standards.
4) Ratio of Campers to Counsellors. Younger children require higher ratios, such as 6-8 yrs. (6 children per); 9-14 yrs. (8 children per); 15-18 yrs. (10 children per counsellor).
5) Length of Camp....5-7 days is the norm.
6) Are visitors (family) allowed? Use your discretion. Family should be allowed, but outsiders?
7) Are they willing to show you the entire facility? This should not even be an option!
8) What is their return rate?
9) Who is the Camp Director? Qualifications? Education? Specializations? Length of Time there?
10) What other activities are offered? Development in several areas of activity is good, especially Team Sports.
11) What is Camper/Horse ratio? How many hours daily spent riding? 2-3 hrs. is the norm.
12) Riding Instructors qualifications, (experience & education).
13) Cost? $10-$50 per day for Day Camps. $15-$125. per day for Resident Camps.
14) Can a friend attend & can they stay together?
If your children become homesick when away from home, then don't send your child alone, either a relative or a friend that is able to attend at the same time.
Don't schedule their camp stay around family celebrations or events such as holidays or B'days or vacations.
Let each child take a favorite stuffed animal, sweater, blanket, doll, picture or?
Mail them a card/letter so that they receive it the first day of the camp, and then again towards the end of the week. Making sure they get their OWN mail at least twice per week away.
